Google Acquires Flutter – Founded by Indians!

flutterapp

TechnoparkToday.com > Flutter – A gesture recognition technology startup based in San Francisco, California, United States (US). Founded by two indians – Navneet Dalal and Mehul Nariyawala, now acquired by google.  It’s reported that the deal could be worth around $40 Million( Approx Rs.250 Crores).

Flutter started on 2010. Their “Flutter App” allowed users to control apps such as iTunes, Spotify, Netflix, VLC, and QuickTime using hand gestures. The app utilizes gesture recognition technology that works with the webcam on a user’s computer Instead of requiring separate hardware, such as Microsoft’s Kinect, Flutter makes use of the built-in webcam to recognize the gestures of a person’s hands between one and six feet away.

The program does not require expensive hardware and is not designed for large movements, such as those used when playing video games—this limits its use to navigational duties. The company plans to achieve profit by licensing the technology to software companies that can then integrate Flutter into their own apps

It is uncertain yet whether the Flutter team will go on developing and upgrading the company’s existing product or bake their technology in to Google products like Google Glass, for example. But the acquisition is proof again that development of a single useful and revolutionary tool can catapult a small startup to a huge payoff – An inspiration for the startup aspirants.
