Genrobotics to Invest Rs 150 Crore in Tamil Nadu to Set Up Robotics Hub

Kerala-based deep-tech robotics company Genrobotics will invest Rs 150 crore over five years in Tamil Nadu to establish a high-end robotics manufacturing and export facility as part of its plans to scale its domestic and international operations.

The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu for the project in Chennai.

Genrobotics COO Nikhil N.P and Director Rashid K signed the MoU and exchanged it with Guidance Tamil Nadu CEO Deepak Jacob IAS.

Manufacturing Base for Global Markets

Under the MoU, Genrobotics will establish a manufacturing base in Tamil Nadu for advanced robotics solutions, with production intended for exports to markets including Singapore, Malaysia, the Middle East and the wider MENA region.

The facility will manufacture the company’s latest Bandicoot series, water and sanitation inspection robots, Wilboar and other flagship platforms.

The project represents one of Genrobotics’ largest single investment commitments and forms part of the company’s broader expansion into sanitation, industrial, medical and defence robotics.

According to the company, the Tamil Nadu facility will focus on high-end robotic systems designed for international deployment while supporting its expansion into healthcare, defence, industrial and aerospace applications.

Expansion Alongside Kerala Operations

Genrobotics said the Tamil Nadu investment will add to the manufacturing capabilities it has already developed in Kerala rather than replace them.

The company currently operates facilities at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Kanjikode in Palakkad, with further expansion underway in both Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad.

Nikhil said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing ecosystem and its ambition to develop a scalable export base serving growing robotics demand across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and MENA markets.

Together, the company’s expansion plans in Tamil Nadu and Kerala represent a significant increase in Genrobotics’ manufacturing and operational capacity.

From Bandicoot to Diversified Robotics

Founded by Vimal Govind M.K, Arun George, Nikhil N.P and Rashid K, Genrobotics emerged from Kerala’s innovation ecosystem with a focus on addressing challenges in sanitation through robotics.

The company is best known for developing Bandicoot, a robotic system designed to eliminate the need for people to manually enter sewers for cleaning. The technology has since been integrated into urban sanitation systems across several Indian states.

Genrobotics has subsequently expanded beyond sanitation into medical, industrial, defence and aerospace robotics, while building its presence in international markets.

The Rs 150 crore Tamil Nadu project marks the next phase of that expansion, positioning the company to increase manufacturing capacity in India while serving growing global demand for advanced robotics solutions.
