Genrobotics Opens Defence and Space Production Facility

Trivandrum (August 2026): Kerala-based deep-tech robotics company Genrobotics has opened a new production facility at KINFRA, Menamkulam, near Thumba in Thiruvananthapuram, marking a significant expansion of its manufacturing and research capabilities into defence production, aerospace and space technology.

The new facility will focus on research, development and production of robotics technologies for defence and space applications. The expansion marks a new phase for Genrobotics, which established its presence through sanitation robotics before expanding into medical, industrial and other advanced robotics applications.

The facility was inaugurated by APM Mohammed Hanish, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries), Government of Kerala. Balagopal Chandrashekar, Chairman of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), and Santhosh Koshy Thomas, Managing Director of KINFRA, addressed the gathering. Genrobotics investors Manoj Agarwal, Co-founder and Managing Partner of SeaFund, and Anil Joshi, Managing Partner of Unicorn India Ventures, were also present, along with the company’s leadership team.

The Menamkulam unit has been designed as an R&D-led production facility with particular emphasis on robotics for defence and space applications. Genrobotics has also strengthened its aerospace capabilities in recent months by bringing senior talent from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) into its team.

The new facility is part of a larger expansion of Genrobotics’ manufacturing infrastructure in Kerala. The company’s largest production facility, being developed in Palakkad, is nearing completion and will focus on sanitation and medical technologies. Genrobotics is also developing a new headquarters-cum-R&D facility at Chanthavila in Thiruvananthapuram. Once operational, the three facilities are expected to add a combined 1 lakh sq. ft. of infrastructure to the company’s operations in Kerala.

The expansion strengthens Kerala’s position as Genrobotics’ principal manufacturing and innovation base while broadening the company’s technology portfolio across sanitation, industrial, medical, defence and aerospace robotics.

Speaking at the inauguration, Genrobotics Co-founder and CEO Vimal Govind reflected on the company’s evolution from sanitation robotics to advanced technology applications. “We began by going where no one else would: into the sewers. Today, we’re headed where few dare to dream: into space. From sanitation to space, that’s the journey Genrobotics has been on, and this is just the beginning,” he said.

Genrobotics’ expansion comes as India seeks to strengthen domestic capabilities in advanced manufacturing, robotics, defence and aerospace technologies. Dedicated R&D and production infrastructure could enable the company to develop specialised robotic systems for environments where remote operation and robotic intervention can reduce human risk.

With facilities planned across Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad, Genrobotics is positioning its next phase of growth around a larger Kerala manufacturing base while extending the application of its technologies from hazardous sanitation environments to healthcare, industry, defence and space.

Tony Thomas, Co-founder of Zoho Corporation, also appreciated the company’s journey, noting that Genrobotics’ efforts to leverage technology to create products for the betterment of society deserve recognition.
