Two Techies Killed in NH 66 Hit-and-Run; Driver Taken into Custody

Trivandrum(July 2026): A day after two Technopark employees lost their lives in a tragic road accident on NH 66 near Thiruvallam, the investigation has taken a new turn, with the police taking into custody the driver of a car suspected to have been involved in the crash.

The deceased were identified as Naveen Sibi (25), a native of Ernakulam working with UST, and Mridula Ann Umman (25) from Thodupuzha, Idukki, employed with EY. Both were based at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram.

When the accident occurred on Thursday afternoon, it was initially believed that the motorcycle carrying the two victims had lost control and crashed into the road divider. However, a detailed investigation by the Thiruvallam Police revealed paint traces on the motorcycle’s handlebars, prompting officials to suspect the involvement of another vehicle.

The investigation led police to a car allegedly driven by Vishnu, who has now been taken into custody. The vehicle has also been seized and sent for forensic examination.

According to the Thiruvallam Sub Inspector, preliminary findings suggest the car may have struck the motorcycle while attempting to overtake it.

“We have taken the car and the driver into custody to ascertain where the negligence lies. The arrest will be registered after completing the investigation,” the officer said.

The accident occurred at around 3:00 PM on Thursday on the stretch between the Thiruvallam Toll Plaza and Chudukadu Junction. Following the alleged collision, the motorcycle crashed into the median, throwing both riders onto the road. They were rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, where they were declared brought dead.

The investigation is continuing, and police are awaiting forensic examination results before filing the final charges.
