KOCHI: Kerala-based startup UNQ Technologies, supported by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Madras, marking a significant milestone in its mission to develop time-critical solutions for India’s urban challenges.

The collaboration secures incubation support at IIT Madras for UNQ Technologies, enabling the startup to scale its flagship traffic signal optimization system. Designed to facilitate the swift movement of emergency vehicles such as ambulances through crowded intersections, the technology aims to drastically improve response times and reduce traffic congestion in critical situations.

As part of the agreement, UNQ has also entered into a strategic technology transfer partnership with IIT Madras, paving the way for advanced research and development in urban mobility solutions.

Anup Ambika, CEO of KSUM, lauded the development, calling it a major boost for Kerala’s growing startup ecosystem and a testament to the region’s focus on homegrown innovation.

Meanwhile, the District Fire Officers (DFOs) and District Medical Officers (DMOs) of Malappuram and Kozhikode have formally submitted reports to their respective district collectors, requesting the implementation of UNQ’s traffic optimization system in their districts to enhance emergency response capabilities.

In addition to traffic solutions, UNQ Technologies is developing an AI-powered appointment scheduling and practice management system, aimed at reducing waiting times in time-sensitive sectors like healthcare. CEO Mohamed Jasim highlighted the potential of the technology to curb hospital crowding and limit the spread of infectious diseases by streamlining patient management.

With urban areas grappling with increasing traffic demands, UNQ’s innovations promise substantial improvements in both emergency services and everyday healthcare delivery, underscoring the startup’s commitment to building smarter, safer cities.
