Problems with Samsung Mobile Phones?

Smart phones from Samsung became a big hit in India, Many techies purchased Samsung smart phones in Technopark is now finding too many complaints with the phones, especially for their Galaxy series of phones in the recent times.

Samsung mobile phones are feature rich and economic, and they are the No.1 and still the favorite brand for techies, especially the phones which is running on android OS. But recent incidents shows techies are worried about the frequent failure of the phone hardware and the poor services available in kerala.

“I bought a Samsung Galaxy SII for 32K and after one and a half month of time, it got damaged. the servicing centre people told me that it is a mother board complaint. I bought it with much expectations, and loaded so many apps and data in to my phone, but such failures for an expensive phone like this is not justifiable” – Said Johnson, A software engineer from Technopark.

“My samsung Galaxy S also stopped responding in one fine day, and I’d given it back to the shop I purchased the phone. they changed the board and given me after 3 weeks. it damaged again within next two days, and it is more than one and a half months, i’d given my phone, and still no trace. I never expected this with a brand like samsung, and the poor service like this made me to think never buy samsung phones again.” – Says Reji, working as a consultant in Technopark.

We met many such victims in technopark itself, and people are warning their friends from buying the samsung smart phones now a days. It was a trusted brand in electronics, and still so many samsung fans are there, but the poor after sales support and service capabilities makes a campaign against the samsung phones.

“Please think twice before you go for an expensive smart phone of Samsung, I heard many stories from my friend, and I myself is a victim for this. We are surprised to hear this many problems for a popular brand like this, may be they are producing less quality materials, or releasing the phones without proper QA process”- Said Anu, a SQA professional from Technopark.

We published this story because of the  repeated requests from the techies, if you have any similar experience, please share your thoughts as the comments below.

  1. well said !!! when i bought my first android based handset i neglected it due to the poor servicing and finally i ended up with LG. Even the handset had a small probs as i noticed after 3 days. I went to the LG Service center in kesavadasapuram. I got replaced with a new handset the very next day and now i dont have any issues. go for LG. its awesome. HTC & Motorola is also good but the service center is quite worse for HTC and no service center for Motorola in Tvm.

  2. I too heard many issues form my friends about the samsung phones. why they are not considering the after sales service support seriously for such a popular brand?

  3. Not just mobiles…My two samsung hard disks failed in the last one year. And the service in tvm is hopeless.. for replacing one hd, they took one and a half months, and installed an unlicensed Windows 7 premium (Original was Win7 Starter)…so I cant update now…real ignorant ppl in samsung service tvm

*** KEEP AWAY FROM SAMSUNG IF YOU STAY IN TRIVANDRUM ***

  4. Well said fact about galaxy s2.

Bought Galaxy S2. After two weeks there was issue with mic and has echo problems .Went to service center and they said its rectified
then again the voice became feeble while calling .they replaced the mother board after 1 month . The board itself having to be replaced highlights the quality side 🙁

Even after spending this much amount the quality is pathetic. The camera is not upto mark . I had compared 8 MP cam with HTC phones of same range .HTC is too good. S2 camera has many issues regarding pink spot and greenish tint in images for low light .

From my experience i wont have a samsung device again

  5. friends, please pass this information to your firends, and share it in social medias, and we want to let it hear by the samsung authorities, that their devices are poorly serviced, or they are assigned the less competent people to service such high value devices. we are buying it for 20-30 thousands, and within weeks it became problematic, and we can’t even get a good service or customer support. many people are buying this brand without knowing the danger. so please share it

  6. Galaxy has become a hit in a short span of time just because of android. Else 2 years ago motorola, samsung etc were all going to die…samsung is just making hay while the sun shines…

I too was hoping to get a galaxy, but this article is making me rethink..

  7. Samsungs’ low end mobile devices are of very low quality .

  8. Good and timely article. I too faced issues with my samsung phone, my speaker phone got damaged within a month. I too heard issues with samsung phones from so many of my firends and their friends. but if you search it, no such trails can be seen in internet.

  9. Thanks for the information. I was planing to buy a samsung galaxy Y. Now I m going to rethink..

  10. Buy Sony. They are good…and ALL phones in 2011 xperia series are now 2.3.4 and will be upgraded to Icecream sandwich by March end

  11. I had problems with my Samsung mobiles very early on, both times involving sound. However they were not smart phones.

  12. I am not sure of other complaints but I am a very happy owner of Samsung Galaxy SL and have no complaints at all.

I feel that usage of various android applications might cause to these problems but they are not limited to Samsung and can happen on any Android smart phone….

Few users(As far as I know and I read) have the problems mentioned above but all those of because of improper usage of phone like rooting, installing unsupported versions of firmware, frequent flashing ROM, unauthorized application downloads. Before reporting an issue with Samsung all these will have to be considered.

I do agree that everyone have their own right to express their ideas, but being a responsible media, I feel TP today should have provided valid proofs before publishing anything on world renowned electronics manufacturer. Just because few people say that they have problem it can’t be regarded that all Samsung mobiles have issues.

PS: I don’t belong / own a stake or any relationship with Samsung except that I own a Samsung Galaxy SL 🙂

  13. @Vivek : Absolutely right…..!! In our company most of the employees own Samsung Galaxy S2 and i haven’t heard any complaints from them at all…..!!1

  14. I own a Samsung Galaxy S2. The board had to be changed two months after I purchased it. I had no problem regarding the service. It was replaced free of charge and I got it back within a week as promised. Since then there has been no problem with the mobile phone.

  15. 5-10 from each 1000 will have issues. This is applicable for all the brands. I too have many samsung devices and I did not face any issues so far.

  16. The device may or may not be good, but the service is horrible. Especially, for those who had spend 20-30K on a mobile. Nokia is much better in this respect. I went to Nokia service center (Pattom) once to repair (own fault). There was a big crowd, but I had an E-series. Nokia had separate counter for E-series customers, so I got thru without much wait. So you dont feel bad.
Samsung should have something similar for Galaxy S series owners

  17. the mic of my samsung got damaged within one month of purchase. and I hear a lots of complaints about the samsung phones, especially for the higher end phone, and everybody is feared to purchase one because of this.

there may be some fault for the components, that we can admit, but according to their sales volume, they have to setup the servicing centers at least in the cities. here the problem is the service centre people are dump and they are making the phones more problematic.

  18. hi friends
i always prefed sony ericsson and now its sony i had used x10 and now using neo and waiting for xperia s .. i hadnt got any complaints, earlier their service centers were not good… but now they are perfect … otherwise go for HTC and motorolla…i will never prefer samsung…dont bother about their maket they had won this much market only due to patent war with apple… those are their business tricks…samsung provides latest technologie … but the hardware they use is cheap and below average…if u prefer buying smart fones go for SONY, HTC,MOTOROLLA….i am telling this due to my experiance and my research in smartphones

I too faced issues with my Samsung phone, my Duos got restarting frequently. Trivandrum Service Center told me the Board damaged and need to be replaced. So the phone kept there for 20 days, no result always got the message wait for the Board.
Finally I complained at Chennai Samsung Customer Service center, within three days the issue solved.

  20. Excerpts from Wikipedia
Reviews of the Galaxy S II have been positive. Engadget gave the device a 9/10, calling it “the best Android smartphone yet” and “possibly the best smartphone, period.” CNET UK gave the device a favorable review of 4.5/5 and described it as “one of the slimmest, lightest mobiles we’ve ever had the privilege to hold.” TechRadar gave the device 5/5 stars and describes the device as one that “set a new bar for smartphones in 2011.” Pocketnow was “impressed” with the speed of the web browser. SlashGear states that the device “sets the benchmark for smartphones in general.” GSMArena points out minor drawbacks such as an “all-plastic body” and the handset having “no dedicated camera key,” but still calls the handset “absurdly powerful” and concluding “we just cannot see beyond the new Samsung flagship if we’re to name the ultimate smartphone.”
After slightly over one month since its debut, more than 1 million units of Samsung Galaxy S II were activated in South Korea. Worldwide, 3 million units were sold in 55 days. After over 85 days of its first release, Samsung has declared global shipments of over 5 million for Galaxy S II and 10 million after 5 months. Partially owing to strong sales of Samsung’s Galaxy range of smartphones, Samsung overtook Apple in smartphone sales during Q3 2011, with a total market share of 23.8%, compared to Apple’s 14.6%.

  21. @Vivek : You are right. I also brought Samsung Galaxy S an year back. Till now I didn’t have any problem with this. I only Install trusted applications from market. And the life of every mobiles depents on how we are using and handling it no matter which brand it is. I’m happy with Samsung Galaxy S.
