Maiden run of ‘She Taxi’ – 24×7 Women Taxi in Trivandrum

TechnoparkToday.com>> October 28, 2013:  She Taxi, a 24×7 taxi service for women and run by women, is all set to roll out in Trivandrum city by the end of November 2013.  A first-of-its kind initiative in the state, She Taxi will be driven by women exclusively for women passengers.  The project, aimed to provide a safe and women-friendly passenger cab system, is implementing as a program of the Gender Park, Kozhikode, under Social Welfare department with the support of city traffic police and transport commissionerate.

“She Taxi service has also an option for arranging safe transportation for IT parks and IT/BPO companies on monthly subscription basis and it will be of great help to women employees working in odd hours”, Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer said.

Interestingly, Technopark-based Rain Concert Technologies provides technical support for the project.  Maruti Suzuki will be providing the customized vehicles for the project.

“As many as 25 she taxis will be introduced soon in Trivandrum city and 100 taxis each will be launched at Kozhikode, Kochi, and Trivandrum later,” Ijas Khan K R, project officer, told Technoparktoday.com.

The main safety features of the specially designed vehicles include personal emergency switches for drivers and passengers, emergency alert app on drivers outside the car, map of all emergency Response Systems in the city, 24X7 Security Control Room support, and service of Public Safety Officers where-ever available.

The Gender Park, first of its kind in India is an autonomous institution promoted by the Department of Social Justice, Govt. of Kerala, to resolve the gender inequity in development.
