TechnoparkToday.com >> This year seem to be brining some bad news to the Indian IT busienss as such. Many medium to large enterprises in IT/ITeS sector from Bangalore,Hyderabad, chennai and even from kerala are shifting their business to Philippines. It is reported that high costs of running business, availability of skilled labour and poor infrastructure are the reasons behind this shift.

This shocking report is revealed in a survey conducted by ASSOCHAM. ASSOCHAM as part of the survey looked into the current developments in the southern part of the country and concluded that India’s upper hand as the Information Technology/Information Technology Enabled Services (IT/ITeS) hub is slowly loosing glory.

Countries like Philippines having strategic advantage for the IT/ITES related business, better infrastruture, english speaking people and cost effectiveness and cheap labour are the few advantages among the many others, giving a winning edge in this competetion.

  1. Seems india is loosing its IT advantages. earlier IT bangalored from the silicon valley, now its being philippined from india. dangerous….

  2. Hmmm but frankly I saw very less number of software/web developers from Philippines. Most of them had “I will do only what you say” and did not have a habit of thinking out of box.

May be ITES/BPO they might be handling. They good excellent designers anyway.

  3. then what will happen to our smart city?? will be vacant?

  4. Smart City thing our politicians will spoil, so Philippines have no role 😉

Jokes apart… we will have to increase the quality of our outputs so that we will get more jobs and all the IT park projects will succeed. Cost was a factor for getting works from outside but now it is more on ‘quality’ work.

  5. Phillies are very much known for their flexibility and cheap labor. you can see them in almost every country doing all kind of jobs in a very reasonable rate. if you were in dubai, you may be knowing how they are…

indians, its the time to improve your thoughts, deeds and outlook..everything will be going to other places

  6. Infrastructure and Harthals are the main reason. I do not think skilled labour is the cause.

Namucku veendum kalavandi odichum, kappa nattum jeevickam.

  7. @jasper, flexibility I doubt. They are well known for fixed hours job – unless paid overtime. May be you know, most of them works in bill counters or front desks. In Dubai too, IT is owned by Indians. May be they works well in their home country.

In India, the hard fact is people work extra hours without over time pay.

  8. The threat is more or less for BPO, especially voice based process. Philippines esp cities like Manila is opted by developed nations. Not only cheap compared to India but voice accent is also preferred. But I havent seen better developers from RP. Still India is preferred for software development. But some countries, south American and African are slowly moving Technical development work also. We need to watch and see how the shine is going to disappear. Scary in fact.

  9. Yes, Other developing or un developed countries were also identified the opportunities in IT/BPO sector. so that would be a threat for the india. sreelanka is already taking the IT customer support and BPO works.

  10. As far as I have heard Filipinos are good tat doing repetitive automatic work, and not much known for their creativity. They are for example good at automatic testing, BPO and stuff like that. Filipinos can never overtake Indians in the IT sector. Do you know that Filipino doctors undergo nurse training so that they can get better paid jobs in the US as nurses??!!

  11. How economical if they shift projects to philipines?

  12. 1 Philippine peso = 1.15692017 Indian rupees

There is no much difference in currency conversion. So it is the accuracy, quality etc. of the jobs.

Indians do excellent jobs in technical area but clients always compliant about the delays in communication and quality of data communicated 😉
