Failure of Trustworthy Public Transportation in Technopark..?

Technopark doesn't have enough public transportation facilities. adding more volvos during peak office times would be a solution for it.

TechnoparkToday.com>> December 9, 2013: How to reach technopark? – If you ask this question to any body in technopark, people will say. Reach Kazhakoottam/Karyavattom by public transport, then catch an auto to technopark. Technopark , which is work place to 40,000 techies and about 5,000 other workers is biggest technopark in India and is an icon for kerala’s industrial flag. How about it’s transportation facilities, it is pathetic.

Work population is supposed to grow to 1,50,000 when Technopark phase 3 is fully occupied. What public transportation technopark is planning?, it is unclear! Current situation is, technopark sees a big queue of cars and bikes in morning in technopark back gate and frontgate from 9-10 am is a symptom of the bigger problem called failure of trustworthy public transportation in technopark.

Overcrowded car parking space, traffic jams, vehicular pollution, man power to control traffic, accidents, etc. are side effects of this bigger problem. If you ask techies, they are actually forced to use cars due to lack of any trustworthy system. Technopark express which is the biggest tool, which could be used in new circular route can fix this problem. One is Front Gate – Kazhakkoottam – Karyavattom – back gate – front gate Circular route in peak hours 8-11 am and 5-8 pm. Many proposals has been submitted to technopark authorities, but to no avail. A proposal has been submitted by Anoop Varghese (author) on behalf of prathidhwani ,a socio cultural organization of technopark employees to sutharya keralam. (Reference number is 22389/2013).

The Volvo buses, which is coming from Trivandrum city comes to technopark, timing usually goes into disarray because of traffic snarls and restrictions in city. The peak hour travel in Volvo bus is just cattle class. There are attingal and varkala beach Volvos passing with less passengers, if they could be routed through technopark, it would be great. Same has been proposed by the author on behalf of prathidhwani to sutharya keralam (reference number is 19471/2013).

Let’s wait and see…!!

  1. Also need to upgrade Kazhakkoottam railway station and allow stop for all express train. We already submit several complaint and petitions to railway and Kerala government but no result. Technopark authorities are not taking any initiatives for this. This was the first complient in the Janasamparakkaparipadi 2013 in Trivandrum (TVDK100001). We have to take ‘broom’ to to change this situation same like Delhi.

  2. If they can put more VOLVO buses to technoaprk from 8.30 AM – 10.30 AM and 5.00 PM – 8.00 PM, it would be helpful to technopark people as well as KSRTC. Thus we can avoid the parking issues in technopark and avoid unwanted traffic blocks in the city roads. I still not understanding why the authorities are not taking any actions like this.

  3. KSRTC in on debt but they are still running busses with out people. Then why we waste one day for voting..

  4. It need not be volvo, it can be any service, if 3-4 ordinary service or FP service is routed through technopark in peak hours( 8 am -11 am and 5pm – 8 pm), it will be boon for every body including KSRTC and TP employess. I am failing to understand why it is not happening

  5. I have worked in almost all the IT hubs within India for the past 10+ years, and have never seen such pathetic transportation facility. The auto-drivers in Technopark and Kazhakuttom stands are lobbying hard to thwart any positive move from the authorities. Even for going just 1 km (from front gate to Kazhakkoottam), they are charging around Rs. 50. Once in the night time, one of the drivers asked me to pay Rs. 200 for the same route (I refused and walked all the way instead). Even the proposal to establish a pre-paid auto stand was taken down by these people. technopark will improve only of these people are included in the “Goonda List”.

For some one residing in Kesavadasapuram / Ulloor or near by areas, catching a KSRTC bus is almost impossible. Some times I have waited for more than 90 minutes to catch a bus. And when they do come, they do so in batches of 3 or 4 buses at a time. The first bus will be jam packed, and the others will be empty. Currently private buses are banned from using this route.

There is no support from the state government and the city corporation. I read somewhere that the Municipal Corporation got more than Rs. 20 crore as professional tax alone. Where all this money is going? Employees are paying Rs. 5,000 every year as professional tax (perhaps the highest in India, although 50% will be paid by the employer).

The less said about the Railway, the better. Only one or two trains have stops here. And there is no transportation facility to Kochuveli Station either.

I urge everyone to stop paying their professional tax until these people do something in return.

  6. Such a pathetic public transportation facilities for India’s NO.1 IT park? we already facing severe parking crunch now a days. if the authorities can provide better public transportation, people will depend on that, and it can save lot of fuel, traffic etc…

  7. Authorities should provide more VOLVO services to Technopark during the peak office hours, and special services to railway stations during the friday evening..

  8. Please put more volvo buses in City – Technopark ( if possible in a gap of 5 min to 10 min ) during 8.30 AM – 10.00 AM and 5.00 PM – 7.00 PM. if so most of the people will be using the volvo only.

  9. In the noon time also there are no buses into trivandrum city from technopark. The only way is to get down at kazhakootam in an auto by paying 40 Rs and then catch a bus which cost 15-20 rs to tvm city. If there is a direct bus ( volvo )it will cost only 20-30 rs to reach into city. Atleast start a prepaid auto stand with minimum 5-10 autos can solve some of the problems. Might be helpful for people to catch trains starting from kazhakootam.

The another problem regarding Volvo buses are, Most of them has a route Palayam-Kannamoola-Medical college when coming from city.So people from Kowdiar,Plamood-Pattom-Kesavadasapuram(Nalanchira,Paruthipara also) need to catch other buses and get down at karyavattom or kazhakootam and then pick an auto to reach technopark. There are so many volvo buses to varkala and attingal which can be deviated through technopark which will be helpful for techies and also for KSRTC.

While telling about trains at kazhakkotam, the condition is very pathetic.
Can we compare kazhakkotam to whitefield ( IT HUB) station banglore?. All the major trains coming to and from banglore has atleast 1 min stop at whitefield.

Here most of techies depends on Vanchinad and malabar Exp. Catching vanchinad Exp on friday will be very risky.

If there is a stop for Intercity (Guruvayur Exp ), it would be better, because techies from alleppy side can depend this train and it will reach ernakulam before vanchinad. This train would be also helpful for techies from Aluva trichur area etc. Vanchinad has the last stop at ernakulam and techies from kottyam and ernakulam depends on this train. So it is very difficult to get into this train, also people from aluva/trichur has no benefit by travelling in this train, because this will reach ekm by 10:30 Pm, so no connection buses/trains will be available from there at that time. So providing stop for atleast Intercity Exp can avoid so many problems.

  10. India should look on this problem. They should prioritize the needs of the society. It really requires upgrades or if not, they should provide some alternative solution for the good of everyone.
