Website Launched for 26th Edition of Kerala Science Congress

KSCTechnoparkToday.com>>  Sep 2, 2013 : The 26th edition of the prestigious Kerala Science Congress will be held in Kalpetta, Wayanad from January 28-31, 2014, the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) announced today.  KSCSTE Executive Vice President Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai inaugurated the official website of the 26th KSC, www.ksc.kerala.gov.in which provides details of the event and enables online registrations for participants. The Kerala Science Congress (KSC) is held annually with the objective of revitalising research and development (R&D) in the state and identifying new talent in scientific research in Kerala. Around 1,000 delegates are expected to take part in the 26th KSC in Wayanad, Prof Rajasekharan Pillai told reporters here today.  Shri A.N.P Ummerkutty, former Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, is the Chairman of the 26th edition of KSC, which is organised jointly by the KSCSTE and its R&D centres. Prof George Varghese, Director, KSCSTE, is the General Convenor. Traditional Knowledge (TK) has been chosen as the Special Theme of the 26th KSC in the backdrop of a resurgence of interest in this in area among academicians, researchers and policymakers. “Traditional knowledge has wide-ranging potential in diverse fields, including communication, especially in providing novel leads for R & D,” said Prof George Varghese. “And Wayanad being a repository for this kind of knowledge, Kalpetta was a natural choice for hosting the Congress.” Dr Pushpangadan, the former director of Palode Tropical Botanical Gardens, is the Vice Chairman of the 26th KSC and Dr P G Latha is the Chairperson of the Organising Committee. The new KSC website is now open for accepting registration for participation, for oral presentation, for the best paper competition and poster presentation. The last date for registration and extended abstract submission is October 31, 2013 and for submission of full papers for the Best Paper Award is November 10, 2013. Detailed guidelines are available online. The special thematic session of KSC will feature invited talks and lectures by eminent personalities in the field of Traditional Knowledge, covering its multifaceted dimensions. The KSC serves as a platform for interaction and exchange of ideas among scientists and young researchers working in different parts of the country. Scientists and scholars will deliver talks on specified themes and research papers will be selected for oral presentation. Speeches by special invitees, presentations by participants, general papers, contest papers and posters in the identified subject areas will be part of the event. As part of the KSCSTE’s efforts to encourage young researchers, the KSC will also host the State Young Scientist Awards, the Best Paper Awards, Post Graduate Student interaction programme and Children’s Science Congress. Along the sidelines of the KSC will be a National Science Exhibition where many of the leading S&T establishments are expected to showcase their research and development activities.
