Kerala’s flagship IT hub Technopark has added 21,12,473 sq ft of built-up space since 2021-22, according to official data presented in the Assembly this year.
The data, presented by the Chief Minister, who also holds the IT portfolio, shows that Technopark’s expansion has been steady and incremental over the years. The total IT built-up area at Technopark increased from 60 lakh sq ft at the beginning of 2011-12 to 85.10 lakh sq ft by the end of 2015-16. It further rose to 106.07 lakh sq ft by the close of 2020-21.
The addition of over 21 lakh sq ft since 2021-22 indicates that the park’s growth momentum has continued, though the pace remains in line with its earlier expansion pattern.
Officials project that once all phases from Phase I to Phase IV are fully completed, Technopark could reach around 40 million sq ft of built-up space by 2035. The long-term plan also estimates the potential to create up to four lakh direct employment opportunities, subject to phased execution, investment inflows and occupancy demand.
While Technopark remains the major driver of Kerala’s IT infrastructure expansion, other IT parks in the state are also witnessing development.
At Infopark Kochi, the total IT space has seen only a marginal increase in recent years, growing from 92 lakh sq ft in 2020-21 to 92.62 lakh sq ft in 2024-25. Plans are under consideration to add another 15 lakh sq ft within the next year.
Cyberpark Kozhikode is still at a relatively early stage of expansion, with around 3 lakh sq ft of built-up space at present. A second IT building, proposed with an area of four lakh sq ft, is being processed under NABARD’s NIDA scheme.
The comparative data shows that while all three IT hubs have recorded growth over time, Technopark continues to hold a significant share in Kerala’s IT infrastructure expansion.
