
Thiruvananthapuram, March 2026: The inauguration of the Vocational Training Centre at Grama Jyothi Special School in Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, was held on 16 February 2026, marking a significant step forward in empowering future generations through skill development.
Supported by Technopark-based Allianz Services India, the Vocational Training Centre will focus on empowering over 150 differently abled young adults by equipping them with the skills, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive and achieve their full potential in building independent, meaningful, and sustainable futures.
Spanning over 5,000 square feet, the Centre comprises three classrooms designed to deliver tailored upskilling and training programs across various sectors including a bakery unit, food processing unit, and cleaning materials unit.

Its specialized programs are designed to equip individuals with practical skills and knowledge, foster independence, and enhance employability. By focusing on these key areas, the Centre aims to create sustainable opportunities for differently abled young adults, prepare them with future-ready skills, and enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the broader economy.
The Vocational Training Centre was inaugurated by Mr. Jison John, Chief Delivery Officer Allianz Services India, Mauritius, Morocco, Portugal, and the APAC region and CEO & MD of Allianz Services India; Mr. Praveen Sasidharan, Chief Insurance Officer, Allianz Services; and Mr. Antony Raymond Gomez, Global Head of Sales and Distribution, Allianz Services in the presence of Rev. Fr. M. Varghese, President, Grama Jyothi, Mr. Thomas Mammen, Secretary, Grama Jyothi, and other dignitaries. Students, along with their parents and teachers, witnessed the ceremony of the inauguration. The event also featured the unveiling of a newly constructed ramp facility to the first floor, ensuring accessibility for all differently abled individuals, and promoting inclusivity and equal opportunity.

Grama Jyothi Special School, established in 2005 under the Grama Jyothi National Institute for the Differently Abled, has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for young adults with special needs since its inception. The institution provides comprehensive support and training to empower marginalized and differently abled young adults to lead independent lives. The school also provides rehabilitative interventions such as speech-language therapy, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy, to support the holistic developmental needs of the students
