Infrastructure upgrade will Boost Investments in the City: GTech

Anoop AmbikaTechnoparkToday.com>> Group of Technology Companies (GTech), the industry body of IT/ITeS companies in Kerala, has said that the Union Government undertaking the long pending transportation infrastructure upgrade around Technopark will accelerate several major development projects which are in the pipe-line. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, had announced at the inauguration of the 4-laning of National Highway 66 bypass that a ring-road and underpasses would be built around Technopark to address the traffic woes in the area.

“We need a major infrastructure upgrade to stay competitive among other IT destinations in the country. The development of basic infrastructure will go a long way in making the city more investment friendly. We hope the newly-laid stretch transforms into a Tourism & IT corridor”, said Anoop P Ambika, Secretary, GTech.

A delegation led by GTech, joined by the Confederation of India Industry , Chambers of Commerce and and Taurus Investment Holdings India had met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in June this year seeking his intervention in including fly-overs and underpasses along the bypass. It was after the meeting that the Chief Minister moved the Union Government for more support.

gtech“We had pointed out to the Chief Minister that the 4-laning project did not include flyovers or underpasses, and this would result in massive traffic congestion even after the completion of work. The ring-road and under-passes will make sure that a large part of the traffic congestion in the area is addressed”, he added.

Technopark Phase I, II and III, campuses of UST Global, Infosys and the proposed site for the Downtown Technopark, a project of Taurus Investment Holdings, lie on the stretch from Kazhakkuttom to Kulathoor. Ongoing development and business expansion is expected to add large numbers to the peak traffic load.
