Trivandrum Feb 2026 : Col Sanjeev Nair (Retd), the recently stepped-down Chief Executive Officer of Technopark, has said that Technopark Phase 4 is being envisioned as the next transformative IT ecosystem, backed by a strong master plan and significant land availability.
Speaking during Technopark’s official vodcast series Aspire: Stories of Innovation, Col Nair said Phase 4 has been planned as a forward-looking, supportive ecosystem that integrates technology, innovation, and sustainability. He pointed out that the Digital University of Kerala (DUK) is already operational on the campus and that the area has been divided into clearly defined zones.
A dedicated zone for Global Capability Centre (GCC) clusters is being developed at Phase 4 as a comprehensive offshore base for multinational corporations (MNCs). This cluster will offer facilities focused on innovation, research, and development (R&D), enabling global companies to establish high-value operations in the state.
Highlighting upcoming initiatives, Col Nair said Phase 4 will host several flagship projects, including Spacepark, the MSME Centre, Unity Mall, and the Emerging Technology Hub of the Kerala Startup Mission(KSUM). He also noted that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is expanding its presence on the campus, further strengthening the ecosystem.
According to Col Nair, Technopark has evolved beyond a conventional IT park into a comprehensive ecosystem enabler that maintains a careful balance between technology and ecology. “Apart from the nearly 500 companies operating from Technopark, multiple verticals of Kerala’s IT sector are represented here,” he said.
These include institutions and initiatives such as DUK, KSUM, Spacepark, and the ICT Academy of Kerala, together creating a robust macro ecosystem. Col Nair observed that this integrated environment is expected to witness significant activity and growth over the next three to five years.
He also underlined Thiruvananthapuram’s growing strategic importance in the space and defence sectors. The city, he said, is uniquely positioned due to the presence of key national assets such as ISRO, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), the Southern Air Command, Vizhinjam Port, BrahMos facilities, Spacepark, and the Pangode Military Camp, along with the proposed Maritime Theatre Command.
The Kerala Defence Innovation Zone (KDIZ), a joint initiative of Technopark and KSUM, was established to tap into the defence sector’s potential by increasing the visibility of Kerala-based startups. Col Nair said sustained engagement between startups and defence organisations has already encouraged more companies to enter these strategically important domains, marking a shift from earlier trends.
Col Sanjeev Nair stepped down as CEO of Technopark on January 9, 2026, concluding a three-year tenure focused on consolidation, expansion, and strengthening institutional preparedness.
