Technopark Employees Seek Resumption of KSRTC’s Weekend Long-Distance Bus Services

Trivandrum, June , 2025: With the gradual shift back to hybrid and full-time office work, employees at Technopark are pressing the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to reinstate weekend long-distance bus services from the IT hub. These services, which provided essential connectivity to various parts of the state, were suspended during the pandemic and have yet to be restored.

A delegation representing Prathidwani, the socio-cultural and welfare organization of IT employees at Technopark, is scheduled to meet with the KSRTC Managing Director today to discuss the matter. Prior to the pandemic, KSRTC operated several weekend routes connecting Technopark to key towns and cities across Kerala. However, these services were suspended during the lockdown and have not resumed, despite the return of in-office operations for many companies.

“Employees are back in office, but KSRTC has not restarted the weekend services,” said Rajeev Krishnan, convenor of Prathidwani. “This has forced many to rely on train services, where obtaining a confirmed ticket on weekends is increasingly difficult. Restoring KSRTC services would alleviate this burden and offer a more dependable travel option.”

Earlier this year, Prathidwani representatives met with Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar to highlight the issue. The minister assured the delegation that the matter would be reviewed. While a Thrissur-bound service was briefly resumed, it was discontinued shortly thereafter due to low passenger turnout.

“Overcrowded trains and last-minute cancellations have made weekend travel unpredictable and stressful,” noted Jayakrishna R, a joint executive committee member of the KSRTC Forum within Prathidwani.

KSRTC sources acknowledged the increasing demand for the service and indicated that the matter is under active consideration. “We recognize the need and will evaluate possible solutions,” said a senior KSRTC official. “The outcome of the upcoming meeting with the Managing Director will be crucial in determining whether the long-distance services can be reintroduced.”

As Technopark’s workforce continues to grow and in-person collaboration intensifies, employees hope KSRTC will act swiftly to reinstate the essential weekend bus services, providing reliable, safe, and convenient transportation options
