TechnoparkToday.com(Dec, 2013) > A lady IT professional from bangalore was raped at a star island resort at poovar, kerala.  Kerala police confirmed this incident.

According to the reports, the victim is a 40 year old IT professional from Bangal, and works for a company in Bangalore. They came  resort with a group of her colleagues as part of an official trip.

According to the victim’s statement, She had chosen single occupancy accommodation and retired to her room after dinner around 11.30 p.m.Two unidentified persons entered her room at 2.30 a.m. One restrained her while the other raped her in the dark. She roused her colleagues and hotel staff and they reported this to the police.

The police have detained four persons, including male staff that were on night duty on November 22, for questioning. They have taken buccal swab from some of the suspects to cross-check their DNA with that from the serological evidence collected from the scene of crime.

The techie community got really shocked after hearing this news. because every IT company conducts parties and team outings in such resorts as part of their celebrations, so such an incident raised an alert within the tech community about selecting such places for future celebrations and events.

“This incident shows how dangerous our place is, I’m really afraid of going any such places now. even my family won’t allow me to go for any such places hereafter” – said Sandhya Madhu, an IT professional working in Technopark.

“The rate of crime is alarmingly increasing in our society, if girls can’t be safe in a star rated facility, how can we ensure they are safe in other places? i really doubted it may not be the very first incident in that place, but since she is courageous only such an incident got reported. police should take action against the resort management also, because they are charging money for the food, stay and safety of their guests. if they can’t ensure the safety of their guests then who else can do it? anyway such resorts won’t get anymore business from IT companies or any such organizations anymore” Said Joseph Mathew, Senior Manager in a Infopark based MNC.

This incident happened as the industry was gearing up for another peak tourist season. The rate and range of such crimes tarnish the image of kerala as a women friendly state. Please let us know your comments, feedback, or any bad experiences happened in any of such places before.

  1. shocking news..our state became a nightmare for women? this is quite unfortunate, and people will scared of resorts…

  2. The resort must be shut down for business at least until rooms are secure for the occupant. the owners must be required to pay compensation to the victim because of no locks on the room doors from what it seems to be the case. It should not happen to anybody else.

  3. shocked by hearing this. because we had there a few weeks back. many IT companies are going to those places for team outing, and spend the weekends there. we also felt that place is not secure because the resort itself is in island, and spread in a very vast area without any adequate security people. the only thing we did is we never opted for a single occupancy. even-though they are saying it as the first incident – who knows? this incident came to know by us only because she showed the courage to report it to the police, and the resort management were not able to influence the victim, police and media, right?

  4. Friends, be cautious when you arrange trips to places like this. always opt for multiple occupancy if you wanted to stay-back during night. also make sure that you are accessible to phones, alarms or security personals, police etc very easy. please make sure that no hidden cameras are placed in your dressing room, bathrooms etc. check and confirm it multiple times and many times in a day, after you reach your room after going out. also donot disclose your details or travel plans to the employees/staff there.

  5. But it seems they arrested some innocent people, since they are non keralites and poor guys from Assam. The victim said the attackers were speking in malayalam and Tamil. so they are scapegoating these poor guys and helping the real criminal. The resort people should show some more responsibility and ethics in it. nobody can do it without the knowledge of some people in the resort. anyway Poovar Island resort is not safe for its guests it seems.
