Trivandrum figures fourth on the list, after Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai

The Government announced today that all formalities for the acquisition of 245.89 acres of land for Kerala’s biggest IT infrastructure project, Technocity, which is also the fourth phase of expansion of Technopark. With this, 451 acres of land have become available as part of this mammoth project which will involve a total investment of over Rs 6000 Crores and is expected to generate over 100,000 direct employment opportunities and over 200,000 indirect jobs.

With this, Technopark’s total area will spread across 451 acres, which includes not just space for IT-ITES firms but also residential, commercial, hospitality, medical and educational facilities to make it a complete IT city. The project is planned as a satellite city that would not strain the resources and infrastructure of the state capital.

Each year India produces about twice as many engineering and computing geeks as America, counting those with bachelor’s degrees or a Master’s in Computer Applications, a conversion course. This “engineering gap” is a source of pride in India and consternation in America, which fears the cutting and pasting of high-tech jobs from West to East.

The State Cabinet has granted an important clearance for the massive Technocity project.

German Ambassador to India, Thomas Matussek and Rolf Saligmann, Consul General of FRG in Bangalore, visited Technopark on December 28. Mr Matussek was impressed by the infrastructure and business ecosystem of Technopark and promised to promote ties between Technopark and the German IT industry.
