SmartCity Work in Progress

Humais Al Tayer, Member of Supreme Committee for Dubai World Group and Dubai Holding Group, has informed Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan that the planning, recruitment, and tendering process for various works related to the Smart City Kochi project are progressing, and that it would only be a matter of weeks before the resources are mobilised toward the work set to begin on ground.

Al Tayer had sent the communication to the State Government in the wake of the concerns expressed by the State over the delay in commencing the works on the project.

Al Tayer said that though no ground works were happening at the land earmarked for Smart City project in Kochi, several teams were at work to make up for the lost time.

The initial challenge before the team is to have a proper planning so that the construction could begin soon. Tenders for various activities have been invited.

Requests for proposal have been invited from six master plan consultancy firms for finalising the master plan. Tenders have been floated for setting up a site office for the project. Recruitment to the posts of construction manager, senior engineers, and document controller is also going on.

  1. I don’t know why as IT engineers – supposedly the people “experts” in information technology we accept anything less than tangible information. These kind of news have been around for so much time. Once in a while some press release comes about with no substance. Pictures of work in progress, a weekly or monthly update etc – these are things that are credible. Anything less reflects how complacent they are about the whole thing.
