Richard Stallman in kerala to inagurate SWATHANTHRA 1.0

SWATHANTHRA is a Free Software Users Group pioneered by St. Joseph’s College of Engineering & Technology, Palai, to proliferate the consciousness of free software amid students and public, in the midst, Richard M. Stallman, father of Free Software movement will breeze into St. Joseph’s College of Engineering & Technology for officially launching the users group on 9th September, 2010 at 10:30 am. Thenceforth he will be emancipate an oration on “Free Software and Your Freedom” to spawn the realization around the threat the world facing from proprietary software.
Richard Stallman will deliver a talk about the Free Software Movement, which campaigns for freedom so that computer users can control their own computing activities. The Free Software Movement developed the GNU operating system specifically to establish these freedoms.

About Swathanhtra

Swathanthra – The Free Software Users Group is an initiative of the students of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering & Technology, Palai. It sprung up from a few pioneering students and enveloped the whole college with a lot of student-level activities. Now it is going to get a full forward thrust by Mr. Richard M. Stallman – The Father of Free Software Movement.

We are focusing on issues related to advocating, promoting, and supporting the cause of ‘Free Software’, free software operating systems, sharing free software    resources and also free software development. Our activities include seminars and meetings, workshops and campaigns to promote awareness of free software among the students and the public.
