International Contest to Develop Mobile App for Tourism Promotion

TechnoparkToday.com(March, 2014):  With mobile apps ruling the roost in the cyber world, the Kerala Tourism department has decided to develop an app for tourism promotion and that too by launching a unique contest inviting participants from across the world to develop the mobile app.

“The competition has been designed to ensure wider reach for Kerala tourism. It also aims to encourage young talents to come up with novel concepts for the promotion of tourism,” said Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri A P Anil Kumar. He said that “the app should be useful to travellers visiting Kerala.”

The participant need not develop the app his/her own but share the concept for creating mobile applications that promote Kerala tourism by submitting it online through the official portal of the tourism department. The contestant must also explain how the application will benefit the industry in the state. The contest will be on till March 18, 2014.

“The ultimate goal of the competition is to brand Kerala tourism across the world. We also want to deliver IT-enabled services to the tourists for their convenience,” said Shri. S. Harikishore, Director, Department of Tourism.

To enroll for the competition, the participant needs to log on to the contest page of www.keralatourism.org/appidea and register. There is no fee to take part in the contest.

The developer of the best app idea will receive a cash prize of Rs one lakh. The tourism department also offers Rs 50,000 each for two persons as the second prize.

The third prize is a laptop computer for three people. Selected 12 contestants will get a mobile phone each as consolation prize.

The competition is open to people anywhere in the world who have completed the age of 18 years (on or before 01.01.1996). Though the department encourages one concept per person or group, more ideas can be entered provided it is send from the same log in. In no case, one person will be allowed to register twice. Maximum of five ideas can be send through a single login id.

The entries should be in English. The article should contain a minimum of 200 words and should not exceed 300 words.
