Dietary Cholesterol : Is found in food of animal origin like butter, milk products, egg, meat, etc.
Blood Cholesterol: Circulates in blood. High blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for hard diseases. The cholesterol may deposit in artery and gets hardened, forming plaque. So it is to be noted that cholesterol should be maintained with in limits
There are two types of blood cholesterol:
1. LDL(Low Density Lipoprotein): Commonly refered as “Bad” Cholesterol.
This builds up plaque in arteries.
2. HDL (High Density Lipoprotein): Commonly called ‘Good’ Cholesterol.
It helps to remove excess cholesterol from the body hence higher HDL value is desirable
Triglyceride is another type of fat found in human body. High levels are very often at risk of diabetes and heart diseases.
VLDL (Very Low Density Lipoprotein): Commonly known as very ‘bad’. It carries triglyceride and lipids from liver to other organs of the body. VLDL level between 5 and 30 mg/dL is said to be normal.
Cholesterol can be reduced or maintained with limits by adhering to the below tips:
1. Being more active and manage body weight.
2. Make healthy food choices – Encourage having Oats, Salmon nuts, Olive oils cooked food.
3. Avoid Junk foods.
4. Regular exercise.
