Trivandrum gets Bigger

Trivandrum has historically been the biggest city in Kerala and is also the largest Municipal Corporation, both in terms of population and area. And it has just gotten even bigger.
The Kerala Cabinet has decided to add five Panchayaths to the Corporation - Kazhakkoottam, Sreekariyam, Vizhinjam, Kudapanakkunnu and Vattiyoorkkavu. With this, the number of wards in the Trivandrum Corporation is likely to increased to over 110 from the present 86 and the urban body will sprawl over 200 Sq.km., forming the core of the Trivandrum Metropolitan Area.

Security awareness in Technopark

In an effort to create awareness among techies on security matters, a one-day programme on security and related issues was organized at the Tecnopark on Monday.
Chief Security Officer of Kochi Refineries T.V. Sasikumar spoke at the programme which was attended by Chief Executive Officers and other senior officials of various companies.

Here is a good news for all IT folks! India to top Asia Salary growth in year 2010.
Companies in Asia are set to offer bigger pay rises next year as the region continues to rebound from global recession, notably in India where base salary levels are poised to jump nearly 10 percent, a survey showed on Wednesday.
Salaries in Indonesia and China will also surge, by 8.7 percent and 6.7 percent respectively, whereas workers in Japan can expect a paltry 2.1 percent pay rise, according to the survey by Hewitt Associates. …

Nearly 200,000 jobs in information technology sector would be created in the next two years. This is said by Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Saturday inaugurated the third IT park in the state - Phase 1 of Infopark Koratty. He also said a Cyber Park at Kozhikode, similar to the IT parks already functioning, would be opened soon.
There are nearly 200 IT companies which employ more than 30,000 professionals at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark campus in Kochi.

TCS Wiz Quiz, India’s largest tech quiz for school students, being organised by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), will be here on October 10 2009.
The event would be conducted at IMA House, near Jawaharlal Nehru International at Kaloor in which students from Class 8-12 can participate, TCS said in a press release here.

Infopark doubles IT exports

Infopark Kochi, an IT park promoted by the Kerala government, Tuesday said its exports almost doubled last fiscal to touch Rs.600 crore ($124.5 million).
It said in a statement that the companies based in the Infopark campus have hired 2,500 IT professionals in 2007-08, taking their total head count to 9,000.
Infopark houses 51 IT companies.
Kerala’s total IT exports last year stood at Rs.4,000 crore.
“What the work environment in Kerala offers is a growth opportunity for both employers and employees,” Kerala’s IT Secretary Ajay Kumar said.

Health care Receivables Cycle Management (HRCM) major Accentia Technologies Ltd has recommended a final dividend of 20 per cent on the face value of its Rs 10 shares for the financial year 2008-2009.

IT sector is likely to be the worst hit in the global economic downturn which has also stifled the expansion of the IT sector, the state government has deferred the payment of 50 percent of the current year’s rent of firms operating in Government-owned IT parks to 2010-2011.
